Paros, Greece: Mini-Guide

I FREAKING love the Greek Islands and it’s truly somewhere I could go every single year and not get tired of it! There’s a reason the first time I went I planned to be there for 7 days and stayed for a month…

Paros is a great island for a little bit of everything, and to use as a hub for visiting other islands if you prefer to stay put and do day-trips. It’s big enough to have a lot to offer but small enough you can do the highlights of the island in just a few days. If you eat fish, try the sun-dried mackerel – gouna, a Parian delicacy!

PASSPORT/VISA

For US and Canadian travelers, 90 days visa free.

CURRENCY

Euros (EUR, €), 1 USD is roughly 0.75-1 €.

LANGUAGE

Official language is Greek, but most people also speak multiple languages including English.

AIRPORTS

You’ll likely fly into Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH). For the islands you could also fly into Santorini (JTR), Mykonos (JMK) and others.

GETTING AROUND

The easiest way to access the islands is to take ferries. I recommend using Ferry Hopper to buy your tickets and search for ferry times, etc.

When you get to the islands, arrange transfers from the ferry port or airports with your hotel. The best way of getting around on the islands is to rent mopeds, ATVs, or cars. Most islands also have affordable and pretty well connected public bus systems (here’s the link to the bus schedules in Paros), they just may not go everywhere you want at the times you want to go. Alternatively, you can always take guided tours!

I use DiscoverCars to book rental cars, in Paros we rented a moped from Kondilis Rent2Paros, but there’s tons of rental shops. When in doubt of where to rent from I’d just ask your hotel.

Where to Stay

Paros has tonsss of accommodation options for any price range, and your money goes much further than in islands like Mykonos and Santorini! I’ve linked a few places I’ve stayed and/or have saved to my list for future stays. I’d generally recommend staying near Parikia, Naousa, or Aliki.

They are listed roughly from most-to-least expensive.

PS: you can click on the hotel names and it will take you to the Booking.com page for that hotel – I make a small commission on any hotels booked though my links at no cost to you so I truly truly appreciate anytime you use my links!

What To-Do

There’s so much to explore on Paros, but it’s also a great hub to base from to explore islands around without having to move every 1-2 days! Make sure to take some sort of a sailing trip, I almost guarantee it’ll be a highlight of your time there! Either way I’d recommend taking tours of the island and/or renting something like a scooter or ATV to get around so you can enjoy all the various beaches & mountain villages!
