Chefchaouen, Morocco: Mini-Guide

Chefchaouen is known as the “Blue Pearl” of Morocco due to the stunning blue washed buildings all around the city. It’s a charming & peaceful little town nestled in the mountains away from the hustle & bustle of the busier cities like Marrakech, Fez, and Casablanca.

I highly recommend including 2-3 nights in Chefchaouen in your Moroccan itinerary. The easiest way to visit will be with a rental car, we got ours from AirCar through DiscoverCars for just under $30 a day!

Where to Stay

There’s a lot of accommodation options in Chefchaouen, from boutique hotels to budget hostels. I’d generally recommend staying somewhere inside the old walled city (unless you’re at one of the super unique places a bit out of town like Dar Jasmine!!). Just know that if you stay in the walled city, cars aren’t allowed inside so you may have to lug your bags to your hotel up cobblestone paths & stairways!

They are listed roughly from most-to-least expensive.

Dar Jasmine – on my bucket list!

Lina Ryad & Spa

Vancii – our stay here was just okay, but the rooftop is super cool!

Riad Nila

Riad Dar Chama

Riad La Santa

Dar Elrio

What To-Do

The best thing to do around Chefchaouen is mostly just to slowly meander the blue alley ways, shopping the stalls along the way while sipping a fresh juice. If you can, I’d try to take a tour to learn more about the history of the city, and try to visit the Akchour Waterfalls. It was too cold when we visited to go! Try to walk around early in the mornings when the city is slow and quiet, it’s magical!
