There’s something so magical about being in Athens, the epicenter of so much history and mythology, which can make it hard to know where to spend all your time! I’d recommend 2-3 days, and highly recommend taking a few guided tours – otherwise it’s hard to understand and appreciate all the history this the city has to offer!
Depending on the time of year, it’s best to do activities early in the morning or late afternoon before sunset, because it’s HOT midday in Athens during the summer!
Where to Stay
Athens is a really walkable city if you’re near the center so I’d recommend staying in the Psyri Neighborhood or near Monastiraki Square. A lot of Athens’ inner city accommodations are smaller hotels and boutique hotels etc so places fill up quickly! I’m listing a few here, but I could probably list 100+ good options! So don’t be alarmed if some/a lot of them are sold out on your dates.

Raise Boutique Rooms – we loved our stay here!
Ederlezi Zoubourlou Aparthotel
A for Athens – this has been on my list for years!

What To-Do
Athens has some of the most fascinating history that somehow makes your understanding of the ancient world just make SENSE. Guided tours are the best way to get the most out of your time and money. If it’s not in the budget to pay for a guide, check out Rick Steve’s self- guided audio walking tours!
