Aruba Mini-Guide

Aruba seems to be a seriously misunderstood country. At least, I misunderstood it! I expected the stunning clear waters and white sand beaches but was unprepared for the wildness of the island. I mean, 20% of the island is made up of the National Park, Arikok! The culture is complex, welcoming, and kind, and the food is fresh and diverse – there’s a reason it’s known as “One Happy Island”.

Aruba is a spot that would be easy to spend a long weekend, or a whole week – whatever time you have you can do a lot!

QUICK ARUBA INFO:

PASSPORT/VISA

Aruba requires an entry form, the ED form, which must be completed on the government website prior to boarding to fly to Aruba. Cost $20 USD

CURRENCY

Aruban Florin (AWG), 1 USD is roughly 1.8 AWG. USD is widely accepted.

LANGUAGE

Official languages are Dutch and local language of Papiamento, but most Arubans speak up to 4 languages, including the official languages, English, and Spanish.

AIRPORTS

The airport you’ll fly into is Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA).

GETTING AROUND

Arrange transfers with your hotel, take taxis (can be pricey) or rent a car. I rent from Discover Cars, but if you want to explore Arikok National Park you’ll need a 4WD. You can rent a Jeep for one day instead of paying for it the whole time you’re there! Or you can always just book a tour for Arikok.

WHERE TO STAY

We stayed at the new JOIA Aruba by Iberostar and it’s supppperrr nice, pretty secluded in a quiet spot on Eagle Beach away from the busy hotel area.
